What makes a professional Dance Instructor?
Arthur Murray Dance Studio
So what makes a professional dance instructor? Well, they should be certified, experienced, aware of current trends, and able to customize the lessons to the particular needs of each couple.
How long does it take to teach a dance?
Arthur Murray Dance Studio
That's a very good question. It depends on their natural ability, how fancy they want to get with the dancing. We usually start off suggesting they come in three to six months in advance just so that there's no pressure of the impending event.
Everybody is different, and it really depends on what they're looking for. Some people want to keep it very simple and basic, but classy. Other people really want to wow their guests.
What is the most common wedding dance?
Arthur Murray Dance Studio
I don't think there is one. I think it really depends on the song that the couple picks. A lot of times, couples are listening for the lyrics, and they want these beautiful lyrics, but there's no beat to them. So it's our job to make sure, even if there's no beat, we're interpreting.
Whenever you go to an event and you see that one couple that's moving gracefully across the floor, you know, that one couple that stands out and you're like, "Oh honey, I wish we looked like that," it's not because they're doing fancy steps, it's because they're moving so comfortably together. And that's what really captures everyone's attention.
What’s the difference between a choregraphed and a freestyle dance?
Arthur Murray Dance Studio
Oftentimes, when couples come in, they think they want it choreographed. They have an idea in their mind that it should be choreographed, probably because they don't know how to dance. But what we do is teach them how to dance so it doesn't need to be choreographed. It's a lot more relaxing if the leader can just lead whatever steps come to mind and the follower can just follow them.
